This road bike stage runs from Hervás to Baños de Montemayor over around 8 kilometres with an elevation gain of 131 metres, making it an easy stage although with a gently ascending profile. It is ideal for a quiet day on the bike or as part of a longer stage along the Ruta Vía de la Plata.

The route runs along the old N-630, a minor road with low levels of vehicle traffic that winds through the Ambroz Valley surrounded by leafy woods of chestnut and oak trees, which have spectacular colours in the autumn. The ascent is constant but bearable, allowing riders to enjoy the scenery, the clean mountain air and the views over the landscapes of the north of Extremadura province.

Baños de Montemayor, the endpoint of the stage, was founded by the Romans and is famous for its spa, which makes use of underwater springs. The village, which conserves sections of the road built by the Romans, has historic remains and a well-preserved traditional architecture. As well as its heritage, there are good restaurants, accommodation options and services for cyclotourists, making it an ideal place to relax after a good bike ride.

 

Baños de Montemayor - Hervás

This road bike stage links Baños de Montemayor and Hervás over around 8 kilometres with an elevation gain of 105 metres. It is an easy ride, an ideal short stage as part of the route or as a relaxing link between these two places in the north of Extremadura province.

You leave Baños de Montemayor in a gentle downhill section from the village’s historic spa down to the bottom of the Ambroz Valley, from where you start a gradually ascending section to Hervás. The route follows the old N-630 road, giving a peaceful ride through a spectacular landscape of native tree species with views over the nearby mountain range.

Hervás, your destination, stands out for its mediaeval Jewish quarter, one of the best conserved in Spain, its cobbled streets and its pleasant atmosphere. The town has a rich cultural life, good cuisine and all the services a cyclist may need.
