This stage is approximately 17 kilometres long and has an elevation gain of 216 metres, making it an easy and accessible road bike ride. The route runs mostly along well-surfaced local roads with moderate traffic levels.
The departure from Mieres follows a section of the city’s bike lane network before joining the road to Riosa. As you go forward, the terrain is slightly undulating but not physically or technically challenging, making it ideal for cyclotourists looking for a quiet ride through the countryside.
Riosa, at the foot of the mythical climb up to the Angliru mountain pass, is a small Asturian village surrounded by green valleys. Although the stage does not go as high as the famous pass, it offers an idea of the cycling environment that characterises the area, with attractive views and villages that retain the rural flavour of Asturias. The end of the stage is in La Vega, a parish council in the municipality of Riosa.
