Montemolín - Fuente de Cantos
This road bike stage runs from Fuente de Cantos to Montemolín over around 13.5 kilometres with an elevation gain of 168 metres. It is of low difficulty, with a route that alternates gentle uphill and downhill sections and helps riders to maintain a constant pace and enjoy the natural surroundings of Extremadura at the same time.
The route runs along tarmacked minor roads with low levels of vehicle traffic and crosses an open landscape characterised by grasslands, olive groves and crop fields. There are no major gradients, although the profile is generally ascending and while being gradual, you will note the effect on your legs!
Montemolín, located below its mediaeval castle, is very picturesque. The town centre conserves the traditional atmosphere of the area and is a good place to rest or link up with other, longer stages.
Fuente de Cantos - Montemolín
This stage links Montemolín with Fuente de Cantos over around 13.5 kilometres with an elevation gain of 210 metres. Although short, the route has a clearly ascending profile with sustained gradients, although it is rated as ‘low difficulty’.
The route runs along minor roads with good surfaces and a light levels of vehicle traffic through a rural landscape where grasslands, pastures and crop fields predominate. The open landscape and long slopes mean that riders need to maintain a steady pace, particularly in the final kilometres before arriving in Fuente de Cantos.
Fuente de Cantos, the birthplace of the painter Zurbarán, is a quiet town with historic and cultural heritage, ideal for a stopover before getting back on the bike.
