Cuadros - La Pola de Gordón
The stage between Cuadros and La Pola de Gordón, with an elevation gain of 216 metres and a length of approximately 23 kilometres, is a difficult one. It combines gravel sections and minor roads, with a constant uphill profile and several points that require special attention, especially at the exit onto the LE-4514 road, where visibility is reduced and traffic can be fast.
The route passes through a mountainous setting characteristic of northern León province featuring oak groves, pine forests, and small river valleys. The terrain is varied and requires a sustained effort, although there are no long inclines. Along the way, short stops can be made in villages and other rural areas, although services are limited. The natural setting and tranquillity of the stage make it very rewarding for gravel bike enthusiasts, despite the difficulty involved.
The destination, La Pola de Gordón, is in the heart of the mountains of León, marking a clear transition in the landscape along the Ruta Vía de la Plata. This small town offers basic services, as well as the opportunity to enjoy its tranquil atmosphere and interesting geological and natural environment, making it ideal for a break or overnight stay before continuing to higher-altitude stages.
La Pola de Gordón - Cuadros
The stage between La Pola de Gordón and Cuadros, covering a distance of approximately 23.5 kilometres with an elevation gain of 138 metres, is of moderate difficulty and runs downhill through the mountain landscape of northern León. The terrain requires constant attention as it varies between compacted tracks, minor roads and country paths.
The landscape is one of the great attractions of this stage, with good views of narrow valleys, geological formations and mountain forests. The descent is gradual, allowing riders to enjoy the route. However, take special care when joining the LE-4514 road, it can be hazardous due to poor visibility and fast traffic.
The landscape opens up as you progress towards Cuadros. It becomes more gentle, allowing for easy entry into the town, which marks the boundary with the most mountainous area on the itinerary. This stage is ideal for a leisurely ride to enjoy the surroundings and prepare for the flattest sections of the southern part of the province.
