This stage of the Ruta Vía de la Plata links the city of León with the town of La Pola de Gordón along a 36-kilometre route with an overall elevation gain of 117 metres. Departure from León is along stretches of bike lane, making for easy riding as you leave the city. However, take extra care at cycle-specific signalised crossings, as they may pose some risk.

Once out of the city, the route runs along low-traffic minor roads that are ideal for road bikes. You ascend gradually (without steep slopes), and slowly gain altitude along the way. The landscape becomes more mountainous as you ride north, with some gentle uphill sections and views of the Alto Bernesga valley, which adds scenic value to the stage.

The arrival at La Pola de Gordón marks the beginning of the mountains of León, in a large village historically linked to the mining industry. Its location in the heart of the valley makes it a strategic stop for riders continuing on to the Principality of Asturias or seeking a quiet place to stop. This stage is ideal as a transition to the most demanding sections on the northern part of the route.

This 36-kilometre stage with an elevation gain of 59 metres starts from La Pola de Gordón and heads towards León along a mainly downhill route, making it a comfortable stage for road cyclists. After leaving La Pola de Gordón, you travel through the Alto Bernesga valley, with gentle descents and some gentle uphill sections that are easy to ride, in an inviting and tranquil natural setting.

The route runs along low-traffic minor roads, ideal for riding safely and at a steady pace. As you travel south, you notice a gradual shift from mountainous to built-up areas, with the gradient not posing any particular demands at any point on the route.

The arrival in León is made easy thanks to its network of bike lanes, which take you to the city centre quickly and easily. However, take care at cycle-specific signalised crossings, as visibility and traffic density may require special attention at some of them. This stage is ideal as a transition to the flattest sections of the southern part of the province of León.
