Mérida - Aljucén
This road bike stage runs from Mérida to Aljucén over approximately 21 kilometres with an elevation gain of 245 metres. It is a low-difficulty route with an ascending profile that intensifies in the second half of the route, requiring a sustained effort on the part of the cyclist.
The route runs along tarmacked minor roads with low levels of vehicle traffic, crossing a landscape increasingly marked by the transition to the foothills of the nearby mountain range. The landscape combines grasslands, scrubland and gentle hills, giving some variety and scenic beauty to the route.
The arrival in the small village of Aljucén offers cyclists a rural setting in direct contact with nature. Its proximity to the Cornalvo Natural Park and its peaceful atmosphere make it an ideal place to rest and enjoy the surroundings after a hard day on the bike.
Aljucén - Mérida
This road bike stage runs from Aljucén to Mérida over around 21 kilometres with an elevation gain of 206 metres. It is a low-difficulty route, its profile alternating gentle sections with some longer uphill sections, especially after leaving Aljucén.
The route runs along well-surfaced minor roads through a peaceful landscape of grasslands, gentle hills and Mediterranean scrubland. The route gradually gains height until it reaches flatter areas as you approach the city of Mérida, the capital of Extremadura.
Mérida is an imposing end to the stage. It is a vibrant and monumental city with an extraordinary Roman heritage, and an ideal place to stay for a while, explore its history and recharge your batteries before continuing your trip.
