There are several options to consider if you have to transport your bike in order to ride the route. In any event, it is advisable to consult each operator’s information, although we make it easy for you with this summary.
Train
Train operators will usually ask you to dismantle the bike and store it folded or in a cover, except for local trains, which allow bicycles in designated spaces without the need to dismantle them.
Make sure to check the specific conditions and prices if you need to purchase an extra baggage option, ensure you have the right storage bag or case, and plan everything in advance.
Bus
To transport your bike by bus, once again, you must follow the specific instructions of each company. Bikes usually have to be packed and a supplement paid. In addition, some companies do not allow e-bikes in their buses.
Plane
As with the other forms of transport, travelling by plane requires planning and fulfilling the specific requirements of each company.
The bicycle must be packed in a special box or bag according to the airline’s requirements, and the weight and dimensions affect the applicable supplement to be paid. A bike will usually be checked in as sports baggage. Wheels need to be deflated to avoid pressure issues during the flight.
Some airlines do not allow the transportation of e-bikes. Please refer to your airline’s website for its policy on bike transportation.
Send your bike
If none of these transport options suit you completely, you can always ship your bike. You have the option of Correos (Spanish post office) and courier companies that offer specialised services.
