Cycling in Cities

A shift in the mentality of people and public administrations on fostering the use of bicycles in cities has been evident for some time now. The benefits of cycling, both for people’s health and the environment, have led to a comprehensive series of services, infrastructure, and regulations aimed at encouraging it.

You already know that you can enjoy the Ruta Vía de la Plata on a bicycle. To make things easier, this section serves as a guide to help you navigate the main centres of interest on the Ruta, providing practical information on enjoying the different places without having to get off your bike.

From here, you can access a comprehensive range of useful information on maps and specific services in some of our associated municipalities.

In the Resources section, there is also information on workshops and bike rental and accommodation companies that provide services to cyclists.

Every precaution should be take when cycling through built-up areas, so remember to:

Maintain your bike in good mechanical condition so that it responds well in any situation.

Make sure that you can be seen: indicate any manoeuvre you are going to make with your arm.

Make yourself visible: ride close to the middle of the lane you are in so that other road users can see you clearly.

Always choose the best lane, and when changing lanes do it as far in advance as possible.

Use the rear-view mirror: look first, and then make the manoeuvre
